When Activision announced that Call of Duty: Modern Warfare was going to be crossplay capable, they also stated that all “post-launch game play content” would be released simultaneously across all platforms. This however is not going to be case. In the Playstation 4 version of the trailer released on 9/25/19 we were shown that PS4 will get an exclusive Survival Mode that will remain exclusive until October 1st, 2020.
The fact that Playstation 4 will have an exclusive game mode has come as a shock to many fans of the CoD franchise. One of the studio developers at Infinity Ward stated that this decision was made because of factors “above their pay grade”. Sony is clearly buying exclusivity from Activision for a game mode to try and pull more people to get the new Call of Duty on their console.
The fact that this survival mode is new and not the main draw that brings players into the Call of Duty franchise (online multiplayer) should not have a large impact the console that gets the most game sales. So far in the two weekends of open beta that have been hosted for Modern Warfare, the game looks like it has a new fresh look and looks quite promising. We are all expecting a big year for Call of Duty for casual players and competitive players alike.
