Blizzard recently announced that they will be implementing a role queue system into the Public Test Region (PTR) on PC.

Currently how ranked and pro play work in Overwatch is as long as the hero isn’t already picked you can play anyone on the roster.

This type of system allows for many different composition of heroes and play styles for teams.

A comp that has dominated the competitive scene was the GOATS or tank meta consisting of three tanks and 3 DPS/Support.

Many fans have hated this form of play as it is said to reduce skill and is boring to watch.

Blizzard wants to try and make a more consistent rule for picking comps by forcing the 2-2-2 meta of two of each hero type tank, dps, and support. When you queue for a game now you will choose what role you will queue as when playing.

Role queuing

This has been implemented onto the PTR already and will have a beta version kick off August 13 to September 1 to test it in regular competitive.

My Thoughts:

I have played a decent amount of Overwatch comp and watched plenty of Pro play. I think this is a good idea for serious competitive play similar to how football teams or basketball teams require certain positions played.

What I don’t know is how well this will work for a game like Overwatch. I think Overwatch was built to be a game of variability and change through out the game hence why they allow hero changes in the middle of play.

With this new system It still allows that change but keeps players to a specific role. We will see how this goes.

What do you guys think about this being implemented into Overwatch is it good, bad or have potential?
